microKORG2 Ver.2.0

The microKORG2 continues to evolve. Version 2.0 introduces expanded sound engines and effects, enhanced loop recorder functions, support for split performance, and forward-looking features that open new possibilities for sound design.

  • Expanded freedom in sound design
    - Custom oscillators and FXs via logue SDK
    - Collaboration with Sinevibes
    - Flexible sound creation with new sub-oscillator
  • New split function
  • Enhanced loop recorder with slice and step recording

Expanded Freedom in Sound Design

The microKORG2 is now logue SDK–compatible, making it possible to load custom oscillators and effects, or even create your own. The sound engine has also been refined, expanding parameters for more flexible use of OSC3 as an LFO, enabling even more complex and sophisticated sound design.

logue SDK Support

First introduced with instruments like the minilogue xd and NTS series, the logue SDK is KORG’s open-source development environment that lets users expand hardware with new oscillators and effects. On the microKORG2, this means you can use custom oscillators and effects included with the update, explore third-party creations, or build your own with API (Application Programming Interface) and development tools. These custom digital oscillators and user effects integrate seamlessly with the microKORG2’s existing modulation and reverb options. Because the SDK is open, you’re not limited to factory presets. You can tap into a global community of developers and sound designers, or push the instrument further by programming your own, giving the microKORG2 unlimited ways to expand with fresh new sounds.

Custom oscillators and effects can be easily loaded on your microKorg2 thanks to the free Windows / Mac OS compatible Librarian application.

*Note: Due to differences in the sound engine and effects architecture, compatibility with the minilogue xd and NTS series is not provided.*

Collaboration with Sinevibes

Renowned for their expertise in sound design and effects, the third-party developer Sinevibes is releasing logue SDK plugins for the microKORG2. Their team has worked closely with KORG engineers to port and optimize their second-generation effects specifically for the hardware architecture of the microKORG2. A total of 15 plugins are immediately available: these include such highly-acclaimed titles as Albedo v2 granular cloud reverb, Corrosion v3 multi-algorithm distortion, and Rerun self-randomizing repeater. In addition to this, the brand has also announced two all-new plugin titles: Atom multi-mode filter and Drift v2 wind turbulence modeler, and they are available as free downloads. Sinevibes promises that thanks to the unique features and musical tuning, their KORG FX plugin series is able to dramatically elevate the sonic powers of microKORG2 – up to the levels of dedicated outboard processors – while keeping everything easily accessible inside a single portable device.

OSC3 Low Mode Added

By running OSC3 in Low mode, it can now operate as an LFO that covers a wide frequency range. For example, running the LFO at high speed yields AM/FM modulation effects, enabling metallic and bell-like timbres. Additionally, by selecting from OSC3’s available waveforms, you can achieve even more complex sound design.

OSC3 Added as a Virtual Patch Source

By selecting OSC3 as a modulation source, you can achieve complex movements such as dynamic panning and volume changes. It can be used both in oscillator mode and in Low mode. When used as an oscillator, it delivers intricate tonal effects without compromising the richness of the sound.

Split Function Added

A new split function allows you to divide the keyboard at your preferred point and play two different sounds. For example, you can assign bass or pads to the left hand and a lead to the right hand, expanding the range of your performance expression.

Enhanced Loop Recorder Functions

The loop recorder has been further refined with new features such as step recording and slice mode, designed to improve ease of use and expand creative possibilities.

Step Recording Added

A step recording function now allows you to record loops step by step. Even if real-time performance is not your strength, you can record one step at a time with precision. In addition, by changing preset sounds at each step, you can easily create complex loops.

Slice Mode Added

In Slice mode, recorded loop sounds are divided and assigned to the keyboard, allowing you to play them as individual slices. This ensures you can reliably select the exact portion of the recorded sound you want to loop, and by combining it with the arpeggiator, you can further expand and develop your loop sounds.

Import/Export Function Added

Created loop sounds can be exported as 16-bit/48 kHz WAV files to an external DAW, where they can serve as the foundation for track production. You can also rework them in your DAW and re-import them into the microKORG2 to build even more complex loop sounds. In addition, you can import your favorite loop samples and integrate them directly into live performance.

About the Trophy Feature

The microKORG2 includes a playful Trophy feature that rewards you as you explore the instrument. While it has been part of the microKORG2 since before Version 2.0, we’d like to share a bit of information about it.

Trophies are special icons that appear when you perform an action for the first time or complete all related actions. There are 15 hidden trophies in total. For example, many users may have noticed the trophy page icon appeared in color after saving a sound for the first time– that was one of the trophies. By discovering all 15 trophies, you can truly say you’ve mastered everything the microKORG2 has to offer.

The Evolution of the microKORG2

Along with the features introduced above, Version 2.0 adds numerous parameters and improvements that further expand the instrument. With these updates, we invite you to enjoy the next stage in the microKORG2’s evolution.
