Recording OASYS PCI synths & effects directly, using ASIO or MME

Bounce-to-disk doesn't record OASYS PCI synths & effects

Recording OASYS PCI synths & effects directly, using ASIO or MME

IMPORTANT: These instructions assume that OASYS PCI is selected as the audio hardware for your audio/MIDI program. If you are using OASYS PCI as a synthesizer/effects processor in combination with another audio system, see the instructions under Setting up for use with other audio cards, and simply route audio to and from OASYS PCI just as you would any other external audio hardware.

You can record the output of the OASYS PCI mixer directly into any ASIO or MME digital audio program, using up to 12 channels of audio at once. This means that, without making any external connections, you can:

• Record OASYS PCI synthesizers

• Record live audio inputs, processed through OASYS PCI effects

• Send audio from your audio/MIDI program (using Streams), process the audio through OASYS PCI effects, and record the processed audio back into your audio program

You can even simultaneously record dry audio inputs along with processed audio and synthesizers, simply by assigning the desired audio inputs to OASYS PCI mixer channels.

To record the output of the OASYS PCI mixer into a digital audio program:

1. From the digital audio program, open the OASYS PCI ASIO control panel/Audio Settings window.

For information on how to open the ASIO control panel/Audio Settings window, please see the "ASIO Control Panel/Audio Settings" chapter in the Reference section of the OASYS PCI Users Guide.

2. Under Record Source, select Mixer Outputs.

The OASYS PCI mixer outputs are now routed to the corresponding audio inputs on your audio/MIDI software, so that mixer output ADAT 3-4 is heard at audio input ADAT 3-4, and so on.

3. Press OK to close the window.

The mixer outputs will now be routed to the audio program's inputs.

4. In the digital audio program, select the desired inputs and record as usual.

For more information on using OASYS PCI with audio/MIDI programs, please see the Using Audio Programs chapter in the OASYS PCI Users Guide.

Bounce-to-disk doesn't record OASYS PCI synths & effects

The "bounce to disk" function in audio/MIDI programs will work only with software-based synths and effects, such as VST plugins. It will not work with OASYS PCI or other hardware-based synths and effects.

However - it's easy to record OASYS PCI synths and effects directly into audio/MIDI programs. You simply need to set the audio/MIDI program to use OASYS PCI as its audio hardware (this FAQ includes directions for setting up many popular audio/MIDI programs). Then, in addition to recording from the audio inputs, you can also record the output of the OASYS PCI mixer directly into any ASIO or MME digital audio program, following the directions above.
