Configuring MacOS for optimum performance

Many seemingly innocuous features can cause problems with real-time applications. With a digital audio program, such problems can result in audio pops and clicks, or even audio dropouts. Fortunately, these problems can be avoided by careful configuration of the MacOS system to ensure reliable audio performance.

For specific tips, see Optimizing MacOS for Audio & MIDI.

Using sounds created with the Windows version

OASYS PCI sounds (including Multis, Programs, Patches, Multisamples, Samples, and Effects) are compatible between MacOS and Windows computers, with a few caveats as described in the "Working With Files" chapter of the OASYS PCI Users Guide.

If files have been created with the Windows version, and you then wish to use them on a MacOS computer, you must first make sure that the files' type and creator are set correctly; otherwise, the MacOS will not recognize them as OASYS PCI files.

To set the file type and creator, you can just drag a folder of Windows-created files onto the OASYS Windows-MacOS Autotyper program. This program is included with the 2.0 install, and can also be downloaded from the software page on the OASYS PCI website.

When you drag Programs, Multis, and Multisamples onto the OASYS Windows-MacOS Autotyper program, their file type and creator will be set automatically based on the three-character file extension (.oap, .oam, kem, or k2m).
