Along with its compact size, this feature allows you to enjoy and share the analog synthesis sound of the monotron Series with your friends, anywhere, at any time. There's also a headphone output that you can use when practicing in private, creating sounds at home, recording, or for connecting to an amplifier or PA system.
VCO + VCF = Modular synthesis building blocks The basic analog sound-building circuit in each of the monotrons is radically simple: one voltage-controlled oscillator and one voltage-controlled filter. As a result, the process of sound creation is intuitive, and instantly understandable. And it's tons of fun. Each Korg monotron provides the joy of sonic creativity that's at the heart of analog synthesis.
Classic Korg Filtering The distinctive tone of an analog filter (VCF) can dramatically alter and enrich the sound. The monotron Series uses the same highly acclaimed VCF circuit as KORG's classic MS-10 and MS-20 semi modular synthesizers. Originally released over 30 years ago, these instruments are still coveted today for their aggressive, dynamic filters. The VCF Cutoff knob sets the frequency or tone of the filter; the VCF Peak knob (monotron, monotron DUO) adds emphasis. A powerful filter is an essential aspect of any analog synthesizer, applying dramatic tonal changes to the sound, and projecting an intense personality that will stand out in any live performance.
Fully-patchable Filter The input jack (AUX input) built into each monotron’s compact body allow you to place any audio source into the signal path, directly before the analog filter. This provides a great way to connect a KAOSSILATOR, a guitar, or a digital audio player to the monotron Series and enjoy tone-bending filter effects.
monotron key features:
- VCO Voltage Controlled Oscillator
- VCF with Cutoff and Peak Control
- LFO can be applied to the Pitch (VCO) or Filter(VCF)
- Ribbon controller keyboard
- Original Analog (VCF) Filter taken from the classic MS-10 & MS-20
- Aux input jack lets you apply filter to any audio source
- Built-in speaker and battery power for Go Anywhere Analog sound
- Headphone jack for private use
Versatile LFO provides audio – and visual – excitement! The LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) can affect either the oscillator pitch or the filter cutoff. Both the speed and the intensity are individually adjustable, so you can create anything from a gentle vibrato to swooping tone changes of galactic proportions. As you turn the LFO Rate knob – featuring an embedded LED – the speed of the modulation effect and the speed of the blinking LED will change in tandem.
Ribbon controller keyboard offers easy expression Borrowing the enjoyment of performing with a simple touch from Korg's wildly popular KAOSS products, the monotron's ribbon controller keyboard takes this ease of use even farther. Simple finger gestures can produce expressive effects such as vibrato and glide.
monotron DUO key features:
- Two analog oscillators (VCO) with individual tunings
- Edgy X-MOD (with Intensity knob) circuit from Korg’s classic Mono/Poly
- VCF with Cutoff and Peak Control
- Ribbon controller keyboard with Scale Select
- Original Analog (VCF) Filter taken from the classic MS-10 & MS-20
- Aux input jack lets you apply filter to any audio source
- Built-in speaker and battery power for Go Anywhere Analog sound
- Headphone jack for private use
Dual Oscillator / X-Mod Design Offering two oscillators, the monotron DUO adds an extra dimension, delivering an even more extreme sound. Tune the oscillators in unison for a rich, thick, analog tone. Tune them in intervals for classic soloing sounds and generating new effects. The X-MOD (cross modulation) circuit taken from Korg's classic Mono/Poly can introduce a mild or razor-sharp edge to the overall sound; everything from a rich vibrato to extreme metallic sounds reminiscent of an FM synth.
Enhanced Ribbon Controller Keyboard The monotron DUO's ribbon controller keyboard now features the familiar Scale function used on the KAOSSILATOR. You can use this button to select one of four scales: Chromatic, Major, Minor, or Off. Choose the Chromatic scale to play precise pitches as on a piano, or choose Major or Minor to generate musically coherent phrases by simply sliding your finger around on the keyboard.
monotron DELAY key features:
- Space Delay with Time and Feedback controls offers analog-style echoes
- New Pitch LFO with selectable Waveshape, Rate, and Intensity controls
- VCF with Cutoff Control
- Wide-range ribbon controller keyboard
- Original Analog (VCF) Filter taken from the classic MS-10 & MS-20
- Aux input jack lets you apply filter and delay to any audio source
- Built-in speaker and battery power for Go Anywhere Analog sound
- Headphone jack for private use
Classic Analog Synth / Space Delay Combination A good delay was an essential part of the classic analog synthesizer sound. More often than not, that delay came from a tape-style echo machine until affordable digital delays were created. The monotron DELAY is an analog synthesizer optimized for sound effects. In addition to its analog oscillator, filter, and LFO, it also provides a Space Delay that's indispensable for swooping, cosmic sounds. The monotron DELAY even reproduces the pitch changes that occur when you vary the delay time, just as though you were using an analog tape echo. As with the filter, the delay effect can be added to any external sound via the Aux In jack. This fat and warm delay will add an authentic edge to your analog sounds!
Dual-Waveform LFO The Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO) waveform used to modulate the pitch now offers a choice of waveshapes – a new square wave plus the traditional triangle wave. Both the Rate (Speed) and the Intensity (Depth) can be adjusted independently. In addition, a trimpot on the back panel can continuously adjust the shape/direction of the triangle wave or the pulse-width of the square wave to deliver even more versatility. Used in conjunction with the delay, the LFO can create dazzling effects and provide unique possibilities for embellishing your songs.
Wide-Range Ribbon Keyboard The monotron DELAY's ribbon controller keyboard features a wide, four-octave range. This design allows the pitch to be controlled even more aggressively and dynamically, making the monotron DELAY a great weapon for a DJ to get the floor moving with irresistible sound. The reversed white keys and body adornments glows under black light illumination, making the monotron DELAY ideal for delivering a striking visual impact in nearly any club environment.

Korg offers every musician the ability to enjoy analog synthesis with the all-new monotron Analogue Ribbon Synthesizer. Powered by two AAA alkaline batteries, the compact monotron can be held in one hand. Although small enough to be easily carried, the monotron is packed with Korg’s legendary analog technology to generate thick and powerful sounds, plus a true analog filter with audio input.
The unique ribbon controller keyboard borrows from the enjoyment of performing with Korg’s popular KAOSS products. Simple finger motions can produce expressive effects such as vibrato and glide. When used in a band, the monotron can harmonize with another instrument – or take center stage for a monotron solo.
The monotron’s circuit is radically simple: one voltage-controlled oscillator, one voltage-controlled filter and one low frequency oscillator. The controls have been streamlined greatly – the panel contains only five knobs and one switch. Each knob controls a single function, so the process of sound creation is intuitive and instantly understandable. The LFO knob is even equipped with an LED that blinks at the same rate as the LFO, offering a convenient visual cue. With this level of simplicity, anyone can easily enjoy the world of analog synthesizers.
The monotron uses the same highly acclaimed VCF circuit as Korg’s classic MS-10 and MS-20 semi modular synthesizers. Originally released over 30 years ago, these instruments are still coveted today for their aggressive, dynamic filters. Just as on the original MS-20, the monotron's filter can be “patched into,” allowing any external audio source to be processed by the monotron’s filter. This provides a great way to connect a KAOSSILATOR, guitar or digital audio player to the monotron and enjoy tone-bending filter effects.
