Fast, accurate, and reliable chromatic tuning – with clip-on convenience While clip-on tuners offer convenience to every player, Korg’s AW-2 Chromatic Tuner provides the swift and accurate results that today’s musician’s demand. The needle-style metering and large backlit display provide the ultimate in functional, high-visibility. Using an articulate mounting system, the entire display section can be quickly positioned for easy viewing. With the AW-2 Chromatic Tuner you’ll be ready for stress-free tuning in any situation.
Double ball joint allows multi-angle adjustment for greatly enhanced flexibility The tuner display section and the clip section of this chromatic tuner are connected by a double ball joint that provides a broader range of left/right/up/down movement, dramatically increasing the range of adjustment. The AW-2 clip-on tuner makes it easy to adjust the display section for easy viewing, allowing you to tune in a natural position.
Backlight ensures excellent visibility even on a dark stage The amount of light available to a performer varies greatly. Dim locations such as a stage or orchestra pit, glaring outdoor sunlight, evening dusk, or nighttime illumination are often far from ideal. The AW-2's backlit meter provides three illumination modes: Off mode for brightly lit locations, Soft mode for somewhat dim locations where you want to conserve battery power, and Auto mode for bright illumination in locations of poor visibility. This ensures that you'll be able to tune perfectly under any conditions. In addition, Auto mode automatically switches to the lower brightness of Soft mode when there has been no sound input or button operation for approximately ten seconds, preventing unnecessary battery consumption. Attention has been paid to numerous details to ensure ideal tuning, such as a large display font and a meter that clearly indicates the pitch discrepancy.
Korg's proprietary clip design boasts a stable fit The AW-2's clip section is a proprietary Korg design in which the opening angle and jaw angle of the clip has been carefully calculated to securely fit a variety of instruments. It boasts a greatly improved fit with your instrument, allowing natural tuning that will not interfere with your performance. This makes the AW-2 an ideal chromatic tuner.
AW-2 includes two clips for use with a variety of wind or string instruments The sweet spot that will pick up the sound most effectively varies between instruments - the neck or bell of a wind instrument, or the head or tailpiece of a string instrument --- and the shape of the attachment location differs accordingly. The AW-2 Chromatic Tuner comes with two clips (one large, one small), so you can choose depending on your situation or preference. The large clip is ideal for various wind instruments or string instruments, and the small clip is perfect for use on the thin bell region of a trumpet or trombone.
Excellent tuning functionality: a broad tuning range and high precision In spite of their light weight and ultra-small size, the AW-2 Chromatic Tuner boasts a broad tuning range of A0--C8 and a full complement of solid tuning functionality. A vibration-sensing piezo pickup is built in to the chromatic tuner, ensuring stable tuning even in a noisy environment. You can also tune using the internal mic. In addition, when using the AW-2/AW-2G clip-on tuner in a vertical position, you can use Korg's proprietary Meter Reverse function to switch the meter so that its High (+) indication is upward. The chromatic tuner is powered by a widely available CR2032-type lithium battery, and with the backlight off, the battery life extends to an amazing 150 hours. Numerous other functions are provided, including adjustable calibration to support various concert pitches, auto power off, and memory backup.
Markings indicate pure major third and minor third intervals for beautiful ensemble playing Inaccuracies of the harmonies in a triad are particularly easy to notice when playing in an ensemble such as a brass band or orchestra. By slightly adjusting the pitch of a major or minor third relative to the equal-tempered interval, a beautiful-sounding pure third can be obtained*. The meter scale of the AW-2 clip-on tuner includes markings to indicate pure major and minor thirds relative to a specified pitch. Simply by tuning your instrument to these markings, you can perform beautiful, pure harmonies when playing in an ensemble.
* The choice of note to adjust when tuning to a pure major or minor third will depend on the music you're performing.

WINTER NAMM SHOW, ANAHEIM, CA, January 15, 2009 — Korg, a leader in instrument tuner technology, introduces the AW-2 and AW-2G clip-on chromatic tuners. Clip-type tuners have proven popular with musicians of wide-ranging genres for their superb functionality and convenience, and the AW-2 and AW-2G models offer significant improvements, adding enhanced flexibility, visibility and tuner sensitivity over previous clip-on models.
The AW-2 includes two clips (large and small) with a propriety design to accommodate a variety of concert band and orchestral instruments with different tuning “sweet spot” locations. The AW-2G comes with an adjustable-angle clip pad that is optimized for attaching securely to all guitar headstocks or other flat instrument surfaces. The AW-2G’s display can be moved to either side of the clip, and when positioned behind the headstock, will not be visible to an audience.
Both tuners’ double ball-joint allows multi-angle positioning with far greater mobility for the display section, allowing stress-free tuning even in the most unique positions. An internal backlight ensures excellent visibility, even on a dimly lit stage, and the backlight can be switched between Soft mode for low illumination and the high-brightness Auto mode, or turned off for well-lit situations. The energy-saving Auto mode automatically switches to the low-power Soft mode when no sound is present.
The AW-2 and AW-2G each have a tuning range of A0 to C8 and a full complement of solid tuning functionality. Special markings indicate pure major third and minor third intervals for authentic consonance. The Calibration function accommodates a variety of concert pitches. Users can select either the internal mic or the vibration-sensing Piezo sensor for optimum response, which ensures stable tuning even in a noisy environment. A Meter Reverse function allows tuning from any viewing angle. The tuners are powered by a widely available CR2032-type lithium battery, and with the backlight off, the battery life is an amazing 150 hours. Auto Power Off maximizes the battery life and a Memory Backup function is also included.
