 Isaac Thomas
Given the number of hats he wears, one can only assume that Isaac Thomas must have an armada of hooks by his front door on which to hang them. As an accomplished conductor, composer, pianist, teacher, vocalist, and worship leader, it’s obvious that Isaac dedicates the better part of his life to music. Always in high demand, Isaac has traveled the world to compose and conduct for some of the finest choirs in England and Africa. He also often appears as a special guest at numerous worldwide and local music events.
Best known for his unique impressionistic choral and piano compositions, Isaac explains, "I fell in love with impressionism only because it gives the listener the impression of what you’re going to create, as opposed to coming out and saying, 'Hey, this is what this song is about.' It allows listeners to discover for themselves."
Isaac also keeps busy in Dallas-Fort Worth as a music director, freelance composer and recording artist. When asked if there were any projects he felt especially connected with, Isaac mentions his stint as touring conductor for contemporary Christian artist, Twila Paris. "The thing I loved about the Twila Paris project was that it was a wonderful opportunity to work with local musicians in the community. I wound up putting together an orchestra, adult choir and children’s choir from various churches and schools as well as serving as the conductor for the concert. It was a great career opportunity for me" he reveals.
In addition to various recent projects, including composing string quartet and marimba compositions, Isaac recently completed a Christmas album entitled Winter Vespers. "I used the TRITON Extreme 88 quite a bit on the project," says Isaac. "I took some of the beautiful songs of Christmas and arranged them in my own impressionistic style on the CD."
Being a jack-of-all-trades and a long-time Korg user, Isaac needs a keyboard that can act as a Swiss army knife of sorts; "One of the things I like about the TRITON is that you can use it on tour, but you can use in the studio for sequencing. I just like to use everything in one system." Yet, just as an instrument’s functionality is important, its tone is also key. "I have really fallen in love with the Valve Force tube technology in the TRITON Extreme," exclaims Mr. Thomas. "It just gives a little bit more warmth especially on the pianos. It’s nice to have that option to turn it on and off on certain sounds."
We can rest easy knowing that Isaac has even more projects in the works.
