Configuring Deck II
When using the 1212 I/O
with Deck II (version 2.6 or later), make the following
settings on your ADAT-compatible device, in the MacOS, and
in Deck.
On the ADAT-compatible
multitrack:
1. Set the multitrack to
use internal word clock.
For more information, see
Setting
the word clock source on an ADAT system.
In
the MacOS:
1. In the Memory control
panel, Turn Virtual Memory OFF.
2. Also in the Memory
control panel, set the Disk Cache to the smallest possible
value: 32k for System 7.5.5 and earlier, and 96k for 7.6 or
later.
3. In the Chooser, turn
AppleTalk OFF.
4. In the Views control
panel, turn off "Calculate Folder Sizes."
5. In the Extensions
Manager control panel, create a new minimal extension set
for use with digital audio programs.
Many extensions are not
recommended for use with Deck. Extensions to avoid include:
Apple Menu Options, Window Shade, and RAM
Doubler.
6. In the Finder, set
Deck's memory allocation.
6a. Select the Deck
application's icon.
6b. Choose "Get Info" from
the File menu.
6c. Set the memory
allocation. We recommend setting Deck's preferred size
(under Memory Requirements) to 16,000k or more. Smaller
sizes will work, but fewer tracks will be
available.
In
Deck:
1. In Options->Hardware
Configuration, select Korg SoundLink DRS 1212 I/O, and set
Sync Mode to ADAT.
If the 1212 I/O does not
appear in the Hardware Configuration dialog, make sure that
the file "DECK II 1212 I/O Driver" is in the "Plug-Ins"
folder, which is in the same folder as the Deck II
application.
2. In
File->Preferences->Memory & Storage, set Max Play
Tracks to 16 (greater if using SCSI RAID disk array, fewer
if using Power Macintosh 7200 or 7500). Greater numbers of
tracks will require larger values for Deck's preferred size,
as discussed under In
the MacOS,
above.
3. Also in
File->Preferences->Memory & Storage, set Disk
buffer size to 512k.
4. Still in
File->Preferences->Memory & Storage, set
Pre-allocate entire record drive to Always. (With fast
drives, this may not be necessary; basically, this simply
improves the performance of the drive.)
5. In
File->Preferences->General: Set SMPTE Pre-Roll time to
4 seconds.

Enabling ADAT timecode synchronization in Deck
II
1. Follow the instructions
under Configuring
Deck II,
above.
2. Set Options->Time
Code Source to SoundLink DRS 1212 I/O.
3. Select
Options->Trigger Sync. When selected, this item will show
up with a check-mark in the menu.
For more information on
why Trigger Sync should be selected, see Continuous
Sync vs. Trigger Sync.
4. Select
Options->SMPTE Online. When selected, this item will show
up with a check-mark in the menu. You can also toggle this
on and off by using the keyboard shortcut
command-j.
Troubleshooting ADAT
Timecode
If you experience problems
with ADAT timecode in Deck II, try the following:
1. Make sure that the
Session sample rate is set the same as the ADAT multitrack.
(You can check the Session sample rate in the Session Info
dialog box.)
2. Try increasing the
SMPTE Pre-Roll time, in File->Preferences->General.
Korg recommends a minimum of 4 seconds.

Setting the Analog Input Level
Deck II's Analog Input
Level parameter (Options->Analog Input Level) controls
the 1212 I/O's analog input trim. In general, when using the
1212 I/O, this parameter should be set to 7.
This is in contrast to use
of Deck II with the Mac's built-in audio hardware, in which
case the Analog Input Level should be set to 0.

"System Overtaxed" message after upgrading to OS
8.1
If "System Overtaxed"
messages appear with sessions that played back OK under
system versions prior to 8.1, try increasing Deck's Disk
Buffer size (in File menu Preferences->Memory &
Storage).

Premiere Plug-Ins and Deck II
Deck II supports Premiere
Plug-Ins, as well as Deck's own real-time effects. Premiere
Plug-Ins use the Sound Manager for audio output monitoring,
as discussed in the 1212 I/O manual.
NOTE: These instructions
assume that the 1212 I/O is selected as the Sound Manager
input and output device, as described in the 1212 I/O
manual.
1. In the 1212 I/O
Utility, make sure that the sample rate and word clock
settings (which are used for the Sound Manager) match those
of Deck II.
If these settings are
different from those in Deck II, the preview's pitch may be
different than the original audio.
2. Also in the 1212 I/O
Utility, select the desired Sound Manager output channels.
If you like, these can be set to match the output setting of
the audio track in Deck II.
Sound Manager audio,
including the Premiere Plug-In preview output, is routed to
the outputs set in the 1212 I/O Utility. The output settings
made in Deck II have no effect on the preview
output.
4. In Deck II, select the
audio to be processed, and select a Premiere Plug-In from
the Audio->Plug Ins menu.
5. Set up the Plug-In as
desired. The effect preview will be heard through the 1212
I/O.
6. Apply the
Plug-In.
The Premiere window will
close, returning you to Deck II.
